England: funeral service attendance limits unchanged by lockdown announcement, but linked events now limited to six people
The Government’s lockdown guidance for England, which becomes law on Wednesday 6 January (but which the Prime Minister said should be followed immediately), confirms that mourners can continue to attend funeral services in England up to the venue’s COVID-secure capacity and subject to a maximum of 30 people.
Linked events such as ritual washing and funeral receptions can go ahead with up to six people. This remains unchanged for those areas previously in Tier 4 – but now applies across the whole of England.
Staff working at the funeral service or linked event are not included in the numbers.
